The Difference Between Laser Hair Removal vs. Electrolysis

Are you debating what hair removal methods to choose for more permanent results? Are you tired of shaving every few days or having to wait weeks for hair regrowth so that you can get unwanted hair waxed? If so, you might have decided that it is time to find a permanent method for getting rid of hair.

You have many choices, and among the more permanent methods available, laser hair removal and electrolysis are reliable and effective. They are both relatively painless to most people, too. There are differences between the two.

At its essence, laser hair removal makes use of infrared light to get at pigment in the hair follicles. It converts the light of the laser into intense heat which destroys the follicles. This is what prevents hair from regrowing. The difference with electrolysis is that it destroys follicles with an electrical impulse, but it only takes on one follicle at a time.

Laser hair removal can take care of larger areas of the skin all at once making it more convenient. Electrolysis can be a permanent method after several treatments. Laser hair removal is not permanent for everyone. There are people who need to undergo several treatments before experiencing permanent hair removal with this type of treatment.

One thing to note regarding the differences of laser hair removal versus electrolysis is that laser removal will only get rid of dark hair. Electrolysis can get rid of any color of hair. Both types of hair removal can cause scarring.

Electrolysis also usually gets rid of all hair even though only one at a time in the first treatment. Laser treatments usually take multiple attempts spaced at four weeks apart. There are some people, however, who do get permanent results after one treatment.
